Playing & Training in Hot Conditions | |
My son and I spent an hour or so last Tuesday in outdoor nets around 1:30-2:30. It was a lovely, still, heady day, with scents of summer in the air. No breeze interrupted the steady heat. After less than 10 minutes, both of us were feeling lethargic to say the least - taking a decent run up for a delivery or putting too much effort into a shot seemed like a lot to ask - we both wanted to go to sleep! We were both well hydrated and had eaten before training. So what was the cause? How do you stay fresh and alert in such warm, balmy conditions, for an hour, let alone a full match? I am convinced there are methods for doing this, be it nutritional , mental, physical or a combination of all three. How do you train to play in warm conditions? |

Hard to say for sure but I would suggest at first thought that it is a mental thing: Warm day, gentle net, no drama, lovely.
Had you been playing a game with a little more pressure you would have been more 'up for it' as it were.
Plus, neither of you have many 'overs in the legs' at this time of year.
