New Zealand Cricket Umpire Coach

Cricket is New Zealand’s staple summer sport with more than 100,000 people currently playing the game, making it one of the most widely played sports in the country.

New Zealand Cricket is responsible for the administration of the game in New Zealand, with delivery of grassroots, club, school and representative programmes managed through six regional Major Associations.  New Zealand Cricket also administers the New Zealand men’s international team, The BLACKCAPS and the women’s international team, The White Ferns, as well as the New Zealand A, New Zealand Under-19 teams and emerging players.

We have a vacancy for an Umpire Coach.  This is a full time permanent position, reporting to the National Umpiring Manager.  The successful applicant will work from home but must be free to travel extensively throughout New Zealand as required.

The primary focus of the role is:
• To develop and manage comprehensive umpire coaching, training resources and recruitment and retention systems to support the growth of umpiring in NZ in conjunction with NZCUSA;
• To manage the identification of emerging umpire talent, and to manage the performance of the NZC Elite panel of umpires;
• To manage the annual assessment of the NZC Elite and Reserve umpire panels against their individual umpire development plans;
• To act as an alternate member of the NZC Referees’ panel as required and as an advisor on umpire selection;
• To liaise with ICC Umpiring and other external & internal parties to ensure umpiring information and standards are developed and maintained.  

The ideal applicant will:
• Have an extensive cricket umpiring background, preferably at International level coupled with an independent and professional leadership approach; 
• Have a superior knowledge and understanding of the Laws of Cricket, the ICC and New Zealand Cricket Playing Conditions;
• Have good time management skills and the ability to work collaboratively across a significant number of key relationships involved in cricket umpiring; 
• Be evaluative, with strong assessment and interpretive capabilities;
• Have strong IT skills;
• Have good interpersonal and written communication skills;
• Understand the challenges of umpiring in today’s world.
